バイオグラフィー
彼女は1983年に始まった「留学生受け入れ10万人計画」の直後に留学、就職した父と、それに伴い日本へ渡った母のもとに1991年東京に生まれた。4歳から7歳までをソウルで過ごし、その後、東京に戻り日本の学校教育を受けて育った。現在は東京に暮らしている。制作中の作品に、朝鮮民主主義人民共和国の言語学者であった金壽卿とDMZを繁殖・中継地とする渡り鳥を重ねて語る『鳥の人生(仮）』（ヴィデオ, 2024-）など。また、ライフワークとして、金時鐘の長編詩『新潟』を書き換えるプロジェクト『新潟』（写真, 2021-）に取り組んでいる。
Biography
Lee was born in Tokyo in 1991 to a father who studied abroad soon after “The International Student 100,000 Plan” (1983) and found his employment in Japan, and a mother who accompanied him. Lee then spent her years from age four to seven in Seoul, and returned to Tokyo, receiving the Japanese educational system. Currently lives in Tokyo. She is currently creating “Life of a Bird (working title)” (video, 2024-), which overlays narratives of Kim Su-Gyung, a linguist from the North Korea, and the migratory birds using the DMZ as a breeding and stopover site. As her life work, she is working on the “Niigata” (photography, 2021-), a project to rewrite Kim Si-jong’s long poem “Niigata.”
アーティスト・ステートメント
自らのルーツを問いながら歴史のありようを観察・考察する。過去の寓喩的解釈である美術史を、社会を布置し、読み取るための言説と捉え、分野を横断した独自のストーリーテリングを展開している。これまで祖母が暮らしていた釜山をはじめ、様々な土地に出合ってきた。カメラを手に地域へ分け入り、フィールドワーク、撮影、編集といった過程を経て、土地は予期せず結び換えられ、地政学的背景を浮かび上がらせる。近年は鑑賞の場や観客がもつ政治性に関心を持ち、思考・実践するための形式を、アーカイブプロジェクトや共同リサーチといった人々との協働、ワークインプログレスの発表をとおして模索している。
Artist Statement
The artist has been observing the history whilst also questioning her own roots. The artist use art history, the allegorical interpretation of the past, as a discourse to rearrange and reinterpret the society. Up to now she has visited many different places, including Busan, where her grandmother used to live. Entering the local area with her camera and in the process of her fieldwork, shooting, and editing, the land unexpectedly connects, revealing its geopolitical context. In recent years, she has become interested in the political dimensions of exhibition space and audience. Her collaborative projects, such as archival projects, joint research, presentations of works in progress, aim to explore forms of reflecting and practicing these issues.
